Abstract

Introduction to The Problem: This research emerged from the issue of declining student discipline within the school environment. The problem of undisciplined behavior among students has increasingly affected the overall learning atmosphere, necessitating a solution rooted in character education and religious values.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of congregational shalat dhuha on improving student discipline at SMA Muhammadiyah 4 Banjarnegara. This study aims to offer an alternative approach to character education by integrating religious practices into school activities, particularly in fostering discipline and responsibility.

Design/methods/approach: The method employed is qualitative descriptive, with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. Informants in this research consisted of students, teachers, and school administrators involved in the shalat dhuha program. The data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Findings: The findings show a 20% increase in student attendance and a reduction of more than 66% in disciplinary violations such as tardiness and failure to bring study equipment. The implementation of a reward system in the form of fuel and phone credit vouchers proved effective in motivating student participation. The program also influenced student attitudes, particularly in terms of responsibility, time management, and active participation in school activities.

Research implications/limitations: However, challenges remain, such as uneven participation among students. This highlights the need for a more personalized approach and greater parental involvement. Another limitation is the absence of digital technology to systematically monitor and evaluate the program’s effectiveness.

Originality/value: This study contributes to the strengthening of value-based education by demonstrating that religious habituation, such as shalat dhuha, can be an effective means of shaping student discipline. The findings may serve as a reference for other Islamic-based schools wishing to implement similar programs. Future research is recommended to develop the use of technology to expand the impact and reach of the program.
